Anxiety of the Present

Speaker: Grant Agler

The Fear of the Future

The Perpetual Anxiety in the Present

The Problem with the Past

We’re more anxious today than ever before

The average high school kid today has the same level of anxiety as the average psychiatric patient in the early 1950’s

According to the 2002 World Mental Health Survey, people in developing-world countries, are up to five times less likely to show clinically significant anxiety levels than Americans, despite having more basic life necessities to worry about.

What’s more, when these less-anxious developing-world citizens immigrate to the United States, they tend to get just as anxious as Americans

We spend over $2B on anxiety medicine in America

All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because …

1  Peter 5:5

All of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because

“God opposes the proud but shows favor to the humble.”

1 Peter 5:5

Pride inflicts anxiety  (progression)

Take your phone out and shut off your notifications

Take a day off

Get your kids out of _______________

Stop saying yes to things that don’t matter

Pride says “I got this

Pride says “I got this”

Humility knows you can’t

Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.

1 Peter 5:6

Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

1 Peter 5:7

Anxiety stems from carrying something you weren’t meant to carry

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God.

Philippians 4:6

And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:7
